Custom Bathroom Remodeling in South Windsor, Connecticut

Project Overview

At First Choice Bathroom Remodeling, we believe every home deserves a bathroom that is as functional as it is beautiful. Our latest project in Berlin, CT, is a perfect example of how thoughtful design, durable materials, and expert craftsmanship can take an awkward, dated upstairs bathroom and turn it into a bright, airy, modern space that finally lives up to the rest of the home.

This bathroom transformation for our client showcases our ability to work with a challenging layout — a vaulted attic ceiling, sloped walls, and existing glass-block features — and deliver a clean, cohesive result. From the crisp tiled tub-and-shower surround to the modern mid-century vanity, every detail was chosen to brighten the room, improve daily function, and create a comfortable space the whole family can enjoy for years to come.

The Challenge

The customer came to us with a tired, dated upstairs bathroom that no longer fit the lifestyle of his Berlin home. The space carried the usual signs of age we see again and again: worn finishes, an outdated vanity and mirror, dingy flooring, a builder-grade tub-and-shower area that had seen better days, and tired paint and trim throughout.

On top of that, the room came with its own unique hurdles. A dramatic vaulted ceiling with multiple slopes made layout and lighting tricky, and two large existing glass-block walls framing a closet door needed to be worked around and refreshed rather than torn out. Storage was limited, the lighting was flat, and the overall look felt stuck in another era. The goal was clear — modernize the entire bathroom, brighten it up, improve everyday function, and showcase the architecture instead of fighting it, all without disrupting the household more than necessary.

Our Solution

We took this tired bathroom back to a clean slate and rebuilt it with smart design, modern materials, and a fresh, contemporary palette built around soft periwinkle-blue walls and warm, light flooring. Highlights of this Berlin project include:

  • A fully retiled tub-and-shower surround featuring large glossy white tile in a clean brick-set layout, paired with a bright white alcove tub for a crisp, modern look that bounces light around the room

  • A built-in tiled niche with a white hexagon mosaic accent and polished metal trim, giving shampoo and storage a designated home while adding a tasteful designer detail

  • A polished chrome fixture package, including a pressure-balance valve, tub spout, and a multi-function showerhead with a handheld sprayer on a slide bar for everyday flexibility, all tied together with a curved chrome shower-curtain rod that opens up the tub area

  • A modern dark-wood vanity with mid-century splayed legs, an integrated white ceramic countertop and sink, matte black bar hardware, and a sleek chrome single-handle faucet for a clean, custom feel and improved storage

  • A frameless beveled wall mirror that brightens the vanity zone and complements the room's airy, open character

  • Wide-plank, light wood-look waterproof flooring installed wall-to-wall, replacing the old dated floor and giving the entire bathroom a warm, modern, low-maintenance foundation

  • Refreshed glass-block walls framing the white six-panel door, preserved as a bright architectural feature and blended seamlessly into the new color scheme

  • A new high-efficiency dual-flush toilet, updated plumbing and electrical, energy-efficient recessed LED lighting, fresh periwinkle-blue paint, crisp white baseboards, and detailed finish carpentry to tie every element together into one cohesive, modern bathroom

The Final Result

The transformation speaks for itself. What was once a dated, awkward bathroom is now a bright, modern, light-filled retreat. The retiled tub-and-shower surround delivers a clean, hotel-fresh feel with its glossy white large-format tile, hexagon mosaic niche, and polished chrome fixtures, while the modern dark-wood vanity, frameless mirror, and warm wood-look flooring add contrast, personality, and serious everyday function. The vaulted ceiling and refreshed glass-block walls — once obstacles — now read as standout architectural features, flooded with natural light from the window's leafy green view. Serhii and his family now enjoy a bathroom that feels like a brand-new build, perfectly suited to the character of their Berlin, CT home.

Can you remodel a bathroom with a vaulted or sloped attic ceiling in Berlin, CT?

Absolutely — angled and vaulted ceilings are some of our favorite spaces to work with. In this Berlin, CT bathroom, the sloped attic ceiling actually became a design feature once we updated the lighting, paint, and finishes around it. Our team carefully plans fixture placement, recessed lighting, tile layout, and shower hardware to suit the room's exact geometry, so a tricky ceiling line turns into a selling point rather than a limitation.

Do I have to replace glass-block walls during a bathroom remodel, or can they be kept?

It depends entirely on your goals and the condition of the existing block. In this Berlin project, the glass-block walls were in great shape and added real character and natural light, so we refreshed them and blended them into the new color scheme rather than tearing them out. If glass block no longer fits your style — or if it's damaged — we can remove it and rebuild the wall instead. We always walk you through the options before any demo begins.

How much does a tub-and-shower remodel cost in Berlin, CT, and do you offer financing?

The cost of a tub-and-shower remodel in Berlin, CT varies based on the size of the space, the tile and fixtures you select, and the amount of plumbing, electrical, and structural work involved. Refreshing an existing tub surround with new large-format tile and updated fixtures generally costs less than a full custom walk-in shower build, while premium materials and custom details add to the investment. To make these projects more accessible, First Choice Bathroom Remodeling offers 0% financing options, and we always provide clear, upfront pricing so you know exactly what to expect before we start.
